Social Previews Fail Before Distribution

Most broken link cards are not social media problems. They are release gate problems: missing metadata, blocked images, stale cache, mismatched canonicals or no proof path.

The feed exposes release mistakes

A broken link card usually looks like a social platform problem. The image is missing. The title is stale. The description is wrong. LinkedIn shows one thing and another platform shows something else.

The platform can be part of the problem, but the first failure is usually the release gate. Nobody checked the public metadata after deploy, nobody confirmed the image URL, and nobody recorded whether the platform accepted the post.

A social preview is not decoration. It is launch metadata that should be verified after deploy and before distribution.

The minimum release row

A useful launch record should say which public URL was checked, which preview image was returned, whether canonical and og:url agree, which tool produced the preview result, and which provider ID came back after the post was sent.

Without that row, the team is guessing. If a post has no provider ID, it is not distributed. If a card has no verified image, it is not launch-ready.

A practical sequence

  • Deploy the page and check the live URL, not only the local build.
  • Run the Open Graph Preview tool against the live URL and fix missing fields.
  • Confirm the social image is public, absolute and visually connected to the page.
  • Post through the approved channel and store the provider ID or exact blocker.
  • Keep the preview result, sitemap state and social proof in the release report.

What should be checked before posting

  • The public URL returns HTML with a stable canonical.
  • og:title and og:description match the actual offer or page purpose.
  • og:image is public, absolute and relevant to the page.
  • og:url does not fight the canonical URL.
  • Twitter card metadata exists when the channel needs it.
  • The social post result stores a provider ID or a concrete blocker.

Preview tools do not replace proof

The Open Graph Preview tool is useful before distribution because it catches missing metadata and shows the likely card. It still does not prove Facebook, LinkedIn or X has cached the latest card. That proof comes from the platform response, provider ID or a specific platform validation result.

Where Webase Global fits

Webase Global builds launch workflows where metadata checks, campaign URLs, sitemap updates, social posting and proof reporting are treated as one release system instead of disconnected tasks.
